First of all, I ask numerous of people, which Top 15 Hip Hop Artists that they grew love in the 2000’s? I put together some of our Top 15 Hip Hop Artist of 2000’s. Below are our lists of the top 15 Hip Hop Artist of 2000’s. Some may agree. In the 2000’s, numerous of artists had break out one hit wonders. Selling millions of album of their trunk, which started the movement. UGK legends, Bun B and Pimp C open up the floodgates for their music. Other Hip-Hop artist such as: Mike Jones, Lil Keke, Z-Ro, Lil Flip, Chamillionaire, Paul Wall, DSR, Big Moe, and Scarface were great as well.

15. Ludacris: Top 15 Hip Hop Artists of 2000’s

Ludacris comes in at number 15 for me. Born in Champaign, Illinois, Ludacris travel and change his resident to Atlanta, Georgia to become a DJ or disc jockey. He later released his first album called Incognegro in 1999. Then followed by Back for the First Time in, he released the hit single “Southern Hospitality” and “What’s Your Fantasy”. Those two singles open up the floods doors Luda career in the early 2000’s.

Ludacris was signed to Def Jam South and his own record label called DTP (Disturbing tha Peace). Incongnegro, Back for the First Time, Word of Mouf, Chicken-n-Beer, The Red Light District, Release Theraphy, Theater of the Mind and Battle of the Sexes, were all top albums of the country as the time.

DTP boss, work with numerous of major artists such as: T.I., Lil Flip, Bun B., David Banner, Trick Daddy, Sleepy Brown, Bobby Valentino, Dolla Boi, Pharrell Williams, R. Kelly, Jeezy, Mary J. Blige, Field Mob, Pimp C.

14. Dr. Dre: Top 15 Hip Hop Artists of 2000’s

Andre R. Young AKA Dr. Dre began his career in the mid 1980’s with the under independent record labor Kru-Cut Record. Dr. Dre started out a young DJ in Compton, California. He later joined the group World Class Wreckin’ Cru under that same record label. His first album “Surgery” with the group sold over 50,000 copies throughout the Compton metro area.

In 2001, Dr. Dre release his second solo album entitled, 2001. The entire album was a hit. This album was nominated for Best Rap Album in 2001. He also won a Gammy Award for producer of the year, Non-Classical. 2001 alone featured artist such as: Devin the Dude, Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Xzibit, Nate Dog, Eminem, Knoc-turn’al, Mary J. Blige, and other top Hip Hop and R&B artists.

Dre is known for his hard work and was nominated for Hustler of the year in 2014 and 2015 and won the award at the BET Hip Hop Awards. Since then, Dr. Dre own his own record label, part owner of Beat, which he sold to Apple. He sold millions of records and produced numerous Top hit around the globe.

13. Andre 3000: Top 15 Hip Hop Artists

André 3000 played a major roll in the South Hip Hop movement. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Andre 3000 started out with the group Outkask around 1994. Big Boi was the other half of the group member. I think these two artists was a huge influence on the young artists today. Many Hip Hop groups sample their music today to make a hit. Both were apart of the Hip Hop group Dungeon Family.

3000’s and Big Boi were signed to LaFace Record, which they release the first album entitled, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik in 1994. This album went as high as 20 on the Billboard 200, for 26 week straight. “Player Ball” was the lead single for this album and this exposure took the country by surprise. “Player Ball” sold over 500,000 copies and also number 1 on the Billboard Hot Rap Single for six weeks.
By the 2000’s, Andre and Big Boi had four studio albums. Albums such as; Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, ATLiens, Aquemini, Stakinia, Speakerboxx/The Love Below and Idiewild. Some other big records are “Rosa Parks”, “Ms. Jackson”, “Hey Ya”, “The Whole World”, “ The Way You Move”, B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad).
The legend in the south worked with artists such as; Snopp Dogg, TLC, Goodie Mob, Macy Gray, Dr. Dre, Erykah Badu, Eminem, Dude the Dude, Three Six Mafia, Chris Brown, David Banner, T.I., Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Q-Tip, John Legend. The list of artists goes on and on. Lets just say they work with the whole music industry.
Outkask won a Grammy Awards for Best Rap Peformance By a Duo or Group, Best Rap Album, Best Urban/Alterrnative Performance, and Album of the year.

12. Jeezy: Top 15 Hip Hop Artists

Snowman Aka Jeezy, Aka Lil J, comes in at a strong number 12. Almost every one that I ask in the survey had Young Jeezy at a lower number. He is from Columbia, South Carolina however, move to Atlanta, Georgia to further his career. CTE World boss (Corporate Thugz Entertainment) started his career in 1998.

Furthermore, in 2001, as Lil J released Thuggin’ Under the Influence. After changing his name to Young Jeezy, P.Diddy signed the artist’s to Bad Boy South, with the group formed Boyz In the Hood. Jeezy has a great buzz on the street now. Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101, the album excelled his name a crossed the country. “Soul Survivor” was the number one single out of the time featuring another great breakout artist Akon. DJ Drama was a huge part of his success and pushing his music out to the mainstream.

Much as the country loved Lil Wayne and T.I., Jeezy was making connect across the south by linking up with other great Hip Hop artists. As a result, Snowman was releasing mix-tapes like albums and were making a fortune of them.

Put On” featuring Kanye West was one of his biggest tracks released. “I’m So Hood” “Amazing” “Lose My Mind”, “I Do”, “Go Getta”, “Grew Up a Screw Up”, “USDA”, “Love in This Club”, all was great tracks released. Consequently, he was nominated and won these award: Best Hip-Hop Collabo, Best Rap Album, Best Rap/R&B Collaboration.

11. R. Kelly: Top 15 Hip Hop Artists

Chicago native Robert Kelly (R. Kelly) is next on my chart. Kelly began performing in the late 80’s. He was a part of the group called Public Announcement, almost a couple years later he took his act solo. 12 Play was the beginning of Robert mainstream career. Almost every single off the album was hit. My favorite track off 12 Play were “Bump n’ Grind” however, “Your 12 Play”, and “It Seems Like You’re Ready” were great song as well. During this time, he was signed to Jive Record Label. Funny part of this is Rob produced the entire album his self. This project was number one for R&B/Hip Hop Albums consequently, selling over 7 million copies.

Rather than stopping there, he teamed up with super star Hip Hop Aaliyah. He wrote songs for Michael Jackson which he was nominated for a Grammy in 1996. “You Are Not Alone” is one of best song in my opinion that Michael Jackson has performed. In 1998, a Grammy was award to Kelly for the hit single “I believe I Can Fly”. Jay-Z, Naz, Sean Combs, Notorious B.I.G. are other super stars that Robert worked with. Around 2010, Mr. Kelly sold over 70 million albums around the world.

10. Chris Brown: Top 15 Hip Hop Artists

Virginia native Christopher Brown, break my Top 10 list. Singing, acting, rapping, dancing, and producing his own music, Mr. Brown can do it all. He was signed to Jive Records in 2004 and released his first studio album. The young artist’s peak at number two on the Billboard 200. The album went double platinum by selling over three million albums copies worldwide. With “Run It” he has the entire world falling for him. Mr. Brown had his debut single top the chart. The name of the album was entitled Chris Brown.

At that time, “Kiss Kiss”, hit the Billboard at number one from his second album called Exclusive. “With You, “No Air”, “Shortie like Mine”, also peak in the top ten on the billboard.
Chris won Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist award from American Music Awards. He also won Best New Artist, Viewer’s Choice, Best Male R&B Artist, Best collaboration, Video of the Year, AOL Fandemonium Award, Pop Artist, Male Artist of the Year and Top R&B Artist.

9. Nelly: Top 15 Hip Hop Artists

Born in Austin, Texas but moved to St. Louis, Missouri while he was young, Nelly come in at number nine on the count down. Cornell Haynes Jr. AKA (Nelly) is one of America top Hip Hop selling artists of all time. He formed the Midwest Hip Hop group St. Lunatics in 1993 and was signed to Universal Records in 1999. Nelly was always a star from sports in school, to rapping hip hop lyrics. His first solo album was a major success. Country Grammar is still Nelly’s best-selling and has sold over 9 million copies in the United States alone. By the end of 2000, Country Grammar was the top album in the country.

Hits like Country Grammar (Hot Shit)”, “E.I.”, “Ride Wit Me”, “Batter Up’s” featuring Murphy Lee and Ali are still classic as of today. This album is one of the highest certified albums in United States history. After the success of Country Grammer, Mr. Nelly follow it up with Nellyvile in 2002. Nellyville sold over 6,500,000 copies in the United States and became one of the top rap album of all time.

The Southern artist worked with numerous of top artist such as: T.I., Kelly Rowland, Justin Timberlake, Paul Wall, David Banner, Fergie, Jermaine Dupri, Ciara, Ashanti, Akon, T-Pain and others. Mr. Derrty is worth over $60 million.

Kanye West caught the world by surprise with the The College Dropout album. Kanye West had a new sound that no one never heard of before. Through the Wire is a classic track from Kanye West.

7. 50 Cent: Top 15 Hip Hop Artists

50 Cent came out with the Get Rich or Die Tryin was the hottest thing 2003. Playing the album over and over. 50 Cent ending many career we this album.

6. T.I. Top 15 Hip Hop Artists

Rubber band man as can be seen, T.I. enter at number 6 on the top 15 Hip Hop artists chart. Clifford Harris Jr., in my opinion, is the one of the influential Hip Hop artist from the south. Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, most noteworthy known for producing mega artists in music world. T.I. signed his first major label deal with LaFace Records in 1998. By 2002, he moved to Atlantic Records with his own record Grand Hustle Records, which was accelerated in 2003. Mostly everyone during this time knew the boss as trap star alone with Jeezy, Trick Daddy, and Gucci Mane.

T.I. released his second solo project Trap Muzik. Trap Muzik took off by selling over 2 million copies most of all, debuted at number 4 on the charts. After rising to the top at number 2, the album became certified platinum. Hits single such as “24’s”, Rubber Band Man”, and “Be Easy” had south going wild. This was the time while everyone wanted to ride around with big rim and flashy paint with their cars or truck. David Banner out of Mississippi produced the “Rudder Band Man” single and was the second single off the album.

Urban Legend really made the Atlanta Hip Hop artists a star and it charted at number one on the Top Rap Album list. Songs like “Bring Em Out”, “ASAP”, “Chillin with My Bitch”, “Stand Up”, and “My Life” where all great classic hits. Producers from this masterpiece were DJ Toomp, Sanchez Holmes, Jazze Pha, Mannie Fresh, The Neptune’s, David Banner, Scott Storch and Daz Dillinger. I really playing this album on my I-pod deployed to Iraq. I played Trap Muzik and Urban Legend over and over to get by the deployment.

Again, Why is Usher Raymond list as a top 15 Hip Hop Artists? Well, had done more features with Hip Hop artists and made those guys a lot of money at the same time. I think he conducted remixes a lot of Top Billboard 100 tracks than anyone. This man can sing, dance, act and write music as well. Born in Dallas, Texas however, he was raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee then moved to Atlanta, Georgia to begin his career. Usher’s was signed under LaFace Records where he released his first album self-titled Usher.

My Way was Mr. Raymond sophomore albums, which he quickly raised to stardom. The first single off the album “Nice & Slow” was the number one single in the US at the time along with “You Make Me Wanna…”, and “My Way”. Usher has sold over 24 million albums and 40 million digital songs in the United States alone. Overall, he has sold over 75 million records worldwide, making him one of the best selling artists of all time.

Going out his way to do better, his third album 8701 earned a Grammy Award in 2002. I know you remember songs like “U Remind Me”, “U Got It Bad”, “U Don’t Have to Call” and “U-Turn” because I do. I know they where R&B songs but you remind me of…

I know a lot of guys are asking why is she in a top Hip Hop list? Here my answer, she can out sell everyone in Hip Hop or R&B and make it sound better than your average artists. Beyoncé G. Knowles a native of Houston, Texas, an original member of the female R&B group Destiny’s Child. In 2003, she released Dangerously in Love, the beginning to her solo career. She was award 5 Grammy Awards from this album. Who can top that? “Crazy in Love” and “Baby Boy” were both featured on Billboard Hot 100 straight the door.

After taking over the charts, in 2006 she released B’Day the second albums of her young career. B’Day sold over 8 million copies world-wide then went seven times platinum. This also won a Grammy Award for Best contemporary R&B and Hip Hop Album. Insist hits such as; “Déjà Vu”, “Irreplaceable” and “Beautiful Liar”, took over the charts for a long time. Then, ”I Am… Sasha Fierce” ran over the Grammy and took home SEVEN Grammy Awards. Yes, Seven. She was mostly rapping on this album.

3. Jay-Z: Top 15 Hip Hop Artists

True meaning of coming up from the rock, Jay Z comes in at number 3 on my list. Shawn Carter out of Brooklyn, New York started music at a young age. In the late 1980’s and the beginning of 1990’, he begin to battle rapper LL Cool J, a true pioneer in Hip Hop music. Mr. Carter boasts his music career around the 1995 with no major label to back him. He sold his music out the back of his car while creating the Roc-A-Fella Records with Damon Dash and Kareem Biggs. In 1996, Jay Z broke a distribution deal with Priority and released the Reasonable Doubt album.

Reasonable Double reached number 23 on the US Billboard 200, and was a favorite around Hip Hop neighborhoods. Until this day, this album is rated in the top 500 Greatest Album of All Time” by many Hip Hop sites. In 1997, later signed with Def Jam Records and released his next album, In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 which was produced by Sean Combs, owner of Bad Boy Records. Jay Z was a great storytelling artist and could tell his true-life story in a rhyme. With this album, he sold over a million copies and went certified platinum.

During 1998, Jay Z’s released one of my favorite albums of all time from Hip Hop artists. “Hard Knock Life” was like waiting up a sleeping giant. The album had so many great Hip Hop producers such as DJ Premier, Erick Sermon, Swizz Beatz, and Timberland. “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)” had the urban and the projects communities going crazy because heard music on the radio that they could relate to. Carter’s sold over 7 million a copies and went 5 times platinum in the United States alone.

Shawn Carter now has all the fame and money and a bigger buzz. In 2001-02, he releases The Blueprint and The Blueprint 2 album. Both albums reach double platinum. Jay Z linked up with unknown artist at the time Kanye West to produce four tracks from The Blueprint’s project. Jay Z also won Grammy for Best Rap Album.

2. Eminem: Top 15 Hip Hop Artists

You may not be surprise by the picks by now however, Eminem has been a monster since he enters the music industry. Marshall B. Mathers Aka (Eminem) is a native of Michigan. Eminem signed with Dr. Dre record Aftermath Entertainment in 1996, after he released his first project called Infinite. In 1999, he releases The Slim Shady LP, which earn Shady’s his first of many Grammy award for Best Rap Album.  Slim Shady LP, debuted at number 2 on the US billboard charts, most noteworthy, selling over 285,000 during the first two week of sale.

The first album best singles were “My Name Is”, and “Just Don’t Give a Fuck” also began quadruple-platinum along the years. While in 2002, Eminem follow up with The Marshall Mathers LP and Eminem Show. By this time, every around the world knew who Marshall Mathers were. This album was certified diamond in the U.S., which he won more Grammy awards also; Eminem was an original member of the Midwest Hip Hop groups Soul Intent and D12. Next, Shady’s would found his own record label Shady Records, which help launch the career of 50 Cent around 2001.

Over 20 something years, Mr. Mathers has sold over 200 million albums worldwide, making he one of the top-selling artists of all time. Mr. Shady is the second best-selling male artist in of Nielsen Sound Scan era, and the best selling Hip Hop artist in United States history. Furthermore, my favorite track from Eminem was “Till I Collapse” featuring another Hip Hop legend Nate Dogg, RIP. “Lose Yourself” was another one of my all-time favorite tracks.
