Nick Cannon opens up about lupus-like illness
Nick Cannon spoke with People about the health problems that landed him in the hospital twice earlier this year, for kidney failure and blood clots in his lungs.
The entertainer, producer, TV and radio personality and husband of Mariah Carey told a reporter that the kidney ailment was caused by an autoimmune disease discovered by doctors — “a lupus-like thing” — and that the clots were related to that infection. “The blood clot thing was probably the scariest because I’ve known people who have passed away from that,” said Cannon, who took a leave from his New York-based radio program in February. “I’m just trying to make sure I put my health first…It’s a lot of stuff, but it’s all in order now.”
Cannon is trying to get at least six hours of sleep a night while recuperating at home with Carey and their young twins. “I feel blessed to be alive,” he said.
