Top 15 Hip Hop Artists of 2000’s
11. R. Kelly: Top 15 Hip Hop Artists
Chicago native Robert Kelly (R. Kelly) is next on my chart. Kelly began performing in the late 80’s. He was a part of the group called Public Announcement, almost a couple years later he took his act solo. 12 Play was the beginning of Robert mainstream career. Almost every single off the album was hit. My favorite track off 12 Play were “Bump n’ Grind” however, “Your 12 Play”, and “It Seems Like You’re Ready” were great song as well. During this time, he was signed to Jive Record Label. Funny part of this is Rob produced the entire album his self. This project was number one for R&B/Hip Hop Albums consequently, selling over 7 million copies.
Rather than stopping there, he teamed up with super star Hip Hop Aaliyah. He wrote songs for Michael Jackson which he was nominated for a Grammy in 1996. “You Are Not Alone” is one of best song in my opinion that Michael Jackson has performed. In 1998, a Grammy was award to Kelly for the hit single “I believe I Can Fly”. Jay-Z, Naz, Sean Combs, Notorious B.I.G. are other super stars that Robert worked with. Around 2010, Mr. Kelly sold over 70 million albums around the world.
