Pharrell Williams: Oscars music is unique

Pharrell Williams is convinced that his Oscar music will make a ‘crazy impact’ on audiences.

The Grammy Award-winning producer and musician joined Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer to compose scores for this weekend’s 84th Annual Academy Awards ceremony.

Pharrell believes that he and Hans have created impressive works in their first-ever collaboration.

He is excited to wow audiences with their compositions.

‘Well, you’re gonna have to watch the show and see, we can’t give it away,’ Pharrell told MTV News. ‘That’s what’s so funny about interviews. They always want to know what you’re about to do. It’s like some of us love you know music and art that blindsides, comes out of nowhere with a crazy impact. And then sometimes you talk about things because you want to warm up the feeling before the huge impact.’

Neither Pharrell nor Hans have worked on the show before, although both have some impressive music credits.

Hans won an Academy Award for The Lion King and has been nominated eight additional times.

Pharrell has written songs for a number of films including Despicable Me, Knocked Up and Rush Hour 2.

The pair worked well together and Pharrell believes music and film devotees will embrace their singular sounds.

‘[I]t’s cool; it’s interesting; it’s very different,’ Pharrell explained. ‘Definitely there’s an homage to the tradition of how the music was done traditionally… [but] we’re different, and when given an opportunity and it’s our opportunity, Hans and I agreed we just would do it from the perspective of people who love music and love making music and respect it, giving back to what gave us so much, which is music and film.’

The 84th Annual Academy Awards will air this Sunday.

The prestigious ceremony will take place at the Kodak Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Centre in Los Angeles.
